What is Flurbiprofen?
Flurbiprofen, also known as Ansaid (Brand name), is an anti-inflammatory drug that is used specifically to treat arthritis in patients. It is administered in a tablet form and has been successful in decreasing rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis symptoms. This drug is in a class called NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) which work to reduce the production of pain and inflammation producing agents in the body.
Flurbiprofen Dosage Details
Flurbiprofen, requires a prescription, which can only be provided by a doctor. It is prescribed in tablet form and the normal dosage amounts are 50mg or 100mg. You should never take over 100mg at a time, because the body can not handle more than this. Do not exceed 300mg per day either.
You may notice a decrease in pain within an hour of taking the medication. For full results to occur, it is recommended that you take the drug for at least 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, you should see optimal results and a reduction in pain and inflammation of your arthritis.
Flurbiprofen Precautions
Before starting Flurbiprofen, like any medication, speak with your doctor and discuss any other medications or allergies that you have. This will help to prevent any unforeseen issues arising. You will want to also discuss your current health with your doctor, to make sure that the drug is a good fit for you.
Some of the people who should avoid this drug include, patients with a history of asthma, skin conditions including hives, people who have had allergies to NSAIDs, and patients with bad kidney problems. If you have any of these conditions, avoid taking this medication and talk to your doctor to find an alternative medication for your arthritis pain. People who also have stomach ulcers should avoid this drug.
Flurbiprofen has been shown to cause toxic levels of lithium for patients that also take lithium. You should avoid this drug if you are taking lithium. It should also be avoided by patients that are taking cyclosporine, because it can cause kidney issues.
If you drink more than 3 drinks a day, then you should not take this drug, as you are at an increased risk of stomach ulcers. Either limit your alcohol intake or look for another remedy to your arthritis pains.
If you are pregnant or looking to become pregnant, it is best that you do not take Flurbiprofen. This is also the case for mothers who are nursing babies, stay away from this drug for the safety of your child’s health.
This drug is not for everyone, but has shown good effect on people with arthritis and it has a good history behind it.
